Graduate Quantity Surveyor
About the Role
As a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team in managing the financial and contractual aspects of construction projects from procurement through to final account. Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors, you will assist with cost estimation, measurement, subcontractor management, and cost reporting to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and in line with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assisting the procurement process in whatever way required, such as completing take offs, compiling tender documentation, contacting subcontractor and developing a schedule of interested companies.
Handle issuing tender enquiries and ensuring the return of quotations in line with MYCO procurement schedules.
Review tender quotations and ensuring they are in line with the scope of works and drawings issued. If not, raise queries on same and ensure quotes are updated.
Compile tender comparisons on returned quotations ensuring no scope gaps have been overlooked.
Ensure any trades which you have been made responsible for have been fully signed off internally and the relevant subcontractor.
Assist the Commercial Lead in preparing all internal reports as outlined in MYCO’s “CVR Report Requirements, Project Monthly Report, Bi-Monthly Report and Cashflow Projection Inwards & Outwards.
Assist in providing cost or other information to the client as requested to ensure a good working relationship is maintained.
Assist as required in compiling and agreeing monthly periods. Tasks may include, measuring, issuing enquiries, comparing quotes etc.
Assist the Purchasing Department with the purchasing of materials in line with the Project Quantity Surveyor.
Maintain all project records on Workspace, this includes to correspondence, applications assessment, variation registers, cost reports, cash flows, client certifications, internal costings, etc.
Assess Subcontractors and Consultants applications for payment on a monthly basis as requested by the commercial lead.
The GQS should carry out their works in a manner which avoids disputes, both with the client and with our supply chain.
Assist the commercial team in developing a defence if disputes arise including setting out our position, providing detailed reports, working with MYCO appointed defence teams etc.
Seek value engineering options where possible to ensure MYCO are achieving the best possible value for material, trades and consultants.
Qualifications & Skills
A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
